Master Gardener of the North Meeting
Name: Master Gardener of the North Meeting
Date: January 15, 2019
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CST
Please join us on Tuesday, January 15th at 6 pm for our monthly gardening seminar at the Oneida County Senior Center located at 100 N. Keenan St. (adjacent to the Trigs Mall/Grocery). This month we will explore plant materials cultivated and gathered for creating dyes. Debbie Jircik will give a presentation on her Indigo from Seed to Dye Project. Debbie will share about her journey growing Japanese indigo, a plant that will grow in our climate zone, and how it led her to studying indigo in Japan in 2017. This interactive program will include discussion of other sources of local color through gardening and foraging that can be used for yarn, fabric and paper. Debbie Jircik is a hand papermaker and artist who was a master gardener volunteer for over ten years. The past six years, Debbie has been studying natural dyeing and has focused on indigo growing, processing and dyeing for the past few years. Her interests as a master gardener volunteer were local food systems, organic vegetable gardening and seed saving.
